Alexander Dwight was delivered in Havana, Cuba. He was called "Sandy” when young. The American forces were withdrawn from Cuba in May 1901, so as an infant he moved with his family to Chicago, Illinois. His sister Elizabeth was born in Chicago on 11 April 1903. They next moved on 1 January 1904 (age 2) to Waterloo, Iowa, where his brother Leonard was born on 28 April 1905. On 1 July 1905 (age 4) he moved with his family to Oelwein, Iowa where they lived until late March 1909. His father commuted from Waterloo to Oelwein from 1 May to 1 July 1905. His brother Arnold was born on 29 May 1907 in Oelwein. In late March 1909 (age 7) he moved with his family to 602 S. College Avenue, Aledo, Illinois where they lived until 1 Sep 1919. His sister Mary was born in Aledo on 2 Feb 1911. 1 Sep 1919 (age 18) to June 1921 (age 20) they lived at 1092 North Broad Street, Galesburg, Illinois. ®156 Aledo did not have a high school so Alexander went to high school at Mt. Hermon in Northfield, Massachusetts and then transferred to Galesburg High School on 30 Nov 1920 to complete his senior year. (his family had moved to 1092 North Broad, Galesburg in September 1919) He graduated from Galesburg, Illinois High School on 10 Jun 1921, ®156 and enrolled at Maryville College, Maryville, Tennessee for the 1921-22 and 1922-23 school years. He transferred to Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota on 18 Sep 1923 for the 1923-24 school year (where he and his brother Leonard were on 6 May 1924 when their grandmother died). Both Maryville and Macalester colleges were affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, of which his father was a minister. He then transferred to the University of Michigan Law School for the 1924-25 school year, with the credits from Michigan allowing him to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College on 16 Jun 1926. After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School he joined the FBI for several years, then practiced with a Chicago law firm for several years, before returning to Aledo, Illinois in 1931 to open his law office. In addition to his private law practice he was the Henderson County State’s Attorney during World War II. He was the Public Defender for Mercer County for six years prior to his retirement. Al raised purebred chickens & sheep. He was a nationally recognized authority on chickens, having raised chickens since college and won many national awards. He was a poultry judge of the Mercer County Fair. He was a member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Aledo. He lived in Aledo, Illinois, the rest of his life.
