®811 ®778“He settled in the south part of Amherst, Mass. His house being a short distance in a south-west direction from where is now the meeting house in the village. It stood upon the west side of a road, which branches south from the road leading from the west street in Amherst, to the meeting house, before mentioned. At this time, but one church was gathered in Amherst. The inhabitants met for religious worship, on the hill near where the college buildings now stand. I find on the record of that church, dates of baptisms of some of his children and conclude that one or both parents were members of the church. It is said such was the relation in this respect, but in the defect of records, I am unable to give the time of their admission.”
