In 1900 he was at school in Bay City, Michigan and could read, write and speak English.
®3274 They were married on 26 December 1916. From their marriage until 18 May 1918 he and Clara lived at his mother’s house in Roy's Pointe, Wisconsin. The 1920 census has Fred and his wife living at the Wachsmuth logging camp on Sand River Road. On 23 Feb 1917 and 20 December 1920 he sent postcards to his mother from Taylor, Wisconsin. They lived in Bergland, Michigan where he worked as a cook in a sawmill from at least September 1930 until 11 March 1932. When the sawmill closed they had to move to live in his sister Beatrice’s house in Bayfield.
®162 Fred and his sister Beatrice opened LaPointe’s Restaurant on Main Street in Bayfield on 2 May 1935 and closed it 20 Dec 1942.
®162 He and Clara lived in Bayfield at 25 North Sixth Street for the rest of their lives. He lived in Bayfield at the time of his mother’s death on 4 February 1951.
®3961 He spent many years after 1942 as a cook on the ore boats of the Columbia Steamboat Company on the Great Lakes. He cooked on the Howard M. Hannah, Jr., and the W. W. Holloway. He was a member of the Mystic Knights of the Blue Ox Camp No. 1 in Bayfield.
