Byron John Hagstrom, 75, Roseville, Minn., died November 14, 2005 after suffering from multiple sclerosis most of his adult life. He was born May 1, 1930 in Ashland to Clarence and Winnifred (Anderson) Hagstrom. He attended Beaser School and Ashland High School and graduated from Northland College. He attended Bethel College for one year and it was there he met Wanda Schrupp, whom he married on August 12, 1952. He served two years in the U.S. Army at Camp Zama, Japan in the Officer of the Far East Headquarters. After returning home, he was employed at CB & Q Railroad in the passenger department. Later, after the merger when it became Burlington Northern, he was in inter-modal research for the freight division. After nearly 30 years there, he was given an early retirement in 1985 and they then moved to Tucson, Arizona for 14 years, returning to Minnesota in 1999. Byron was active in the music of Salem Baptist Church and served the Lord in church wherever he lived as long as health permitted.He is survived by his wife, Wanda, two daughters, Jane (Hussein) Hussein, Patricia (Lenny) Kopeloff, two grandchildren, Ali Hussein and Alan Kopeloff, a sister, Barbara Stuefer of Roger, Minn., and a brother, Lance (Marlene) of Iron River. He was preceded in death by his parents. A service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Friday, November 18 at 11 a.m., with interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
