He emigrated via New York in November 1881 at age 49. He became a member of the Salem Baptist Church in Ashland, Wisconsin on 14 December 1890 and a US citizen on 4 October 1905. On 1 June 1900 Swan Hagstrom, 43, owned a farm in the Township of Washburn, Bayfield County, Wisconsin (Township 48 - Range 5) next to his brother Gust’s farm. He lived with his wife Clara, 41, and children Ellen, 12, Paul, 8, Emma, 7, David, 5, Joseph, 3 and Hulda, 1. Also living with them was Clara’s mother, Anne Haisa Gustavson, 79 who had emigrated from Sweden in 1881 and a boarder John W. Gustavson, 44, who had emigrated from Sweden in 1880 and worked as a farm laborer.

®4392On 1 April 1930 Swan G. Hagstrom, a 74 year old widower born in Sweden lived on a dairy farm he owned in the Town of Eileen. He had emigrated from Sweden in 1881, was married at age 30 and was a naturalized citizen. Living with him were his son Joseph, 32, Joseph’s wife Selma, 32, and Arvid M. Hagstom, 9, and Jean L. Hagstrom, age 4 years and 1 month.
