He moved to Palmer about 1812 and bought a lot north of his brother. He was a saddler and harness maker. In 1840 he is a farmer 30-40 years of age in Palmer, Hampden County, Massachusetts (M704 R185 P88) His wife is 40-50 years old and they have one boy under 5, one boy 10-15, one boy 15-20, one girl 5-10, and two girls 10-15. In 1850 he is a 55 year old farmer in Palmer, Hampden County, Massachusetts living with his wife Rhoda, age 57, and Hayden C., age 13. All 3 were born in Massachusetts and the value of his real estate is $2000. (M432, R319, P301). The only other Moody in 1850 in Palmer is Amanda Moody, (probably their daughter) age 20 and born in Massachusetts who is one of six borders who live at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Whiting. (P282). In 1860 he is a farmer in Palmer, Hampden County, Massachusetts with a real estate value of $1500 and personal property value of $300. Living with him are Rhoda, age 67, Electa L., age 38, Hayden C., age 23, and a 9 year old male named Chaxxx Smith.
®5263 In the 1870 census he, Rhoda, and Electa L, age 48 still live in Palmer. Hayden has left home. Chaxxx Smith is gone.
The only Joseph listed on the 1820 Massachusetts census lived in Newburyport.
Joseph is the only Moody in Palmer in 1840, although page 3 was missing.
