The Genealogy of David L. Moody & Yvonne L. La Pointe. - Person Sheet
NameAlphonse William ZIMMERMAN ®332
Misc. Notes
“He was 59 when he died in 1920. He was an accountant and worked his way up in the Wells Fargo Company in New York City, becoming vice president of their bank. He was in line to be president, but was discharged instead. He was obviously of German descent and this was when W.W. I was going on, so he may have been discharged due to anti-German prejudice. After that, he served on the U.S. Shipping Board during W.W. I and was personal accountant to William Randolph Hearst in New York City. His first cousin was Charles A. Zimmerman, bandmaster at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis for many years, and co-author of the Navy hymn, "Anchors Aweigh."
