“ At time of his 1st mar., this son took his intended wife behind him on horseback and went by marked trees to Deerfield, Mass, to have the act solemnized. His father rode on another horse before them, with his gun, to protect them from the Indians. The son became a Minister of the Baptist persuasion, began to preach in 1753, was ordained in 1761, was a preacher of the Gospel 72 years. He preached, meanwhile, nine thousand and twenty sermons, rode one horse 19 years and traveled in that time twenty-three thousand miles. He d. 6 Jul 1824 in his 90th years. ®408
