Irene lived in Ashland, Wisconsin on 17 November 2005.
®7230 Irene Hagstrom, age 83, of Ashland, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Golden Living Center Court Manor in Ashland. She was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Ashland, the daughter of John L. and Jennie (Anderson) Hagstrom.
After completing her schooling, she worked for Munsingwear in Ashland. She then spent a year on the West Coast before moving to Milwaukee in 1956 to work at the Jack Winter clothing factory. In 1966 she returned to the family home to live with her parents, working as a keypunch operator at Beloit Hibob until it closed and then at Eagan Chevrolet. In 1982 she took the position of administrative assistant at the Ashland Housing Authority and served as executive director for a short time before her retirement in 1994.
Irene was an active member of the Calvary Tabernacle Church, serving as treasurer and Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved children and usually carried candy or gum so she would have some to give at the proper time. Quarters were handy if the candy ran out. Irene, sometimes called Dena, was the “favorite aunt” of the nieces, nephews and “greats” also. Living on the family farm gave her an opportunity to enjoy visits from many of the extended family. She even fixed a little lutefisk during the holidays.
She is survived by two brothers, Robert and Willis Hagstrom of Ashland; four sisters, Doris Becker of Trego, Lucille Becker of Lake Nebagamon, Joyce (John) Hare of Ashland and Joan (Jack) Kruse of Thonotosassa, Fla.; three sisters-in law, Jean, Grace and Helen Hagstrom; two brothers-in-law, Don Nicholson and Richard Benson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Howard, Roy “Bud” and Wallace Hagstrom; two sisters, Elaine Nicholson and Marion Benson; two sisters-in-law, Shirley and Marilynne Hagstrom; and two brothers-in-law, Leonard and Walfred “Bud” Becker.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland, with Rev. Myron A. Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and will continue on Friday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Private family burial will take place at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Ashland at a later date.
