Gerald W. Hagstrom
Feb. 11, 1936 — Feb. 25, 2012
Gerald Walter Hagstrom, age 76, passed away peacefully from Parkinson’s disease and cancer on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Croix Falls.
Born Feb. 11, 1936, to Walter and Mildred (Johnson) Hagstrom, Gerry grew up on a farm near Ashland. After graduating from Ashland High School, he served in the 32nd Infantry Division of the Wisconsin National Guard. Gerry married the love of his life, Peggy Klein, on Nov. 3, 1962, at Salem Baptist Church in Ashland.
Gerry worked for Xcel Energy (Northern States Power) for 29 years as an electrician. In 1983, the Hagstroms moved to Amery, Wis., and opened the Find It Here Gift Shop and Nursery in 1989. Gerry took great joy in talking to people, especially about plants. He was very generous with his time and knowledge, and donated a great number of the plants that he raised. Besides plants, Gerry also loved woodworking and filled the houses of his family with beautiful furniture.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Peggy; his children, Dave (Tammy), Debbie (Derrick) Meyer, and Dan (Trish); 12 grandchildren; a brother, Harley (Marlene); two sisters, Betty (Wes Rasmussen) and Ethel (Gary) Smith; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elwood; and a grandson, Sam.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 2, at United Covenant Church of Clear Lake with Pastor Dan Pearson officiating. Burial will be at the Amery Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Williamson Funeral Home in Amery, which is serving the family.
