Charles emigrated with his parents James and Mary Arseneau from Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada in 1898 ®5372 or 1900. ®3086 On 1 June 1905 Charles, 6, lived with his parents in Washburn, Wisconsin. ®8176 On 15 April 1910 Charles, 12, lived with his parents on Roy’s Point Road in the Township of Bayfield, Wisconsin. ®8164 On his 12 September 1918 Draft Registration Card, Charles Joseph Arseneau, 19 and single, lived with his parents, the James Arseneaus, in Bayfield, Wisconsin. He worked as a laborer for Colonel Willey in Washburn, Wisconsin. He was a “non-declarent alien” of medium height and medium build with blue grey eyes and dark brown hair. ®9595 On 1 January 1920 he did not live with his parents in Bayfield and cannot be found on the Census. ®5372 On 1 April 1930 Charles was single, 31, a laborer and lived with his parents on Fourth Street in Bayfield, Wisconsin. ®3086 On 5 Jun 1938 Charles Arseneau, 40, married the widow Maggie Hebert, 51, at Bayfield. ®5374 Charles died at age 64. ®9596

Margaret had immigrated from French Canada in 1905 ®5374 (1920 census said 1904) (1930 census said 1907) and was not a naturalized citizen on 1 January 1920. ®3982 Fred and Maggie Hebert lived in Roy’s Point, Wisconsin from 1910 to 1924 and seven of their eight children were born there. Maggie moved the family into Bayfield shortly after Fred died of tuberculosis in 1924, at the age of 45. ®5374 Perhaps James Arseneau worked in the same logging camp as Fred Hebert and felt sorry for Fred’s widow and seven children when Fred died in 1924. That may be why he allowed Maggie and the children to live in the bottom floor of the Arseneau house on Sweeney Avenue in Bayfield after Fred died. On 1 April 1930 Margaret was a 43 year old widow who was head of the household on Fourth Street in Bayfield, Wisconsin. She had married at age 20. Wilfred, 18, Clarence, 14, Hazel, 12 and Leonard, 5, lived with her. She had become a naturalized citizen in the interval since 1920. ®3086
