On 1 January 1920 Verne [sic] Butler, 42, lived in a home he owned with a mortgage at 227 East 8th Street in Washburn, Wisconsin with his wife Lula [sic], 31 and children Grace, 11, Vinnis [sic], 6, Lois, 5, Arvil [sic], 3 and Donald 2. Verne had been born in Michigan, his father in Michigan and mother in the United States. Verne worked as a laborer at the DuPont powder plant in Barksdale.
®11445 On 1 April 1930 Laverne E. Butler, 53, had moved from Washburn to Centerville, Iowa where he rented a house for $10 a month at 1710 South 19th Street. He worked as a carpenter at a jobbing company and lived with his wife of 20 years, Lulu J., 41, and children Berneice [sic], 16, Lois J., 15, Orville E., 14, Donald N., 12, Everett G., 10, Richard G., 4 and Bessie M., 2, who was the only child born in Iowa so they had moved to Iowa between 1926 and 1928. Grace no longer lived with the family. Laverne’s parents had both been born in Michigan.
