Ernest William Bowditch to Georgiana Bowditch, 30 December 1912

[From Ernest William Bowditch in Boston, Massachusetts, to Georgiana Bowditch in Morganton, North Carolina. He says he and his daughter plan to arrive in Morganton on 27 January, and says their only interest is seeing her, and any family pictures she might have, and have no interest in sightseeing.

Ernest W. Bowditch was a third cousin to Georgiana Bowditch.

The letter was typewritten, in an envelope addressed to "Miss Georgiana A. Bowditch, Morganton, N. C.," and postmarked "Dec 30, 1912, Boston, Mass." The printed return address is "Return in 5 Days to Ernest W. Bowditch, Boston Mass." In the upper left of the letter itself is the printed letterhead

My dear Georgiana:

It is my present intention to arrive at Morganton Monday morning, January 27th, on the train leaving New York at twelve o'clock Sunday, and my daughter1 and I hope to find you at Morganton.

I hope you will not make any special preparations to give up anything that you would otherwise be doing, or put yourself out to entertain us in any way, because what we are after more particularly is to see you. The country round about, and particularly the public institutions in the town, I do not care anything about, and after we have seen you we shall continue on to Biltmore and Asheville.

The one thing I would like to see if you have the material at hand is photographs of the other members of your family, particularly of your father,2 mother3 and grandfather,4 if there is any record of them. If I find the date is liable to be different from what I have indicated, I will let you know.
