Sallie Darlington, writing in response to an ad in the New York Daily Times, 20 September 1854
[From Sallie Darlington in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She responds to an ad in the New York Daily Times for an organist for a church in the south; asks where the church is and the name of the pastor; and describes her qualifications and provides references.]
West Chester, Pa.
September 20th 1854
Having observed an advertisement in the New York Times of September 19th in reference to procuring an organist for a parish in the South, I would be glad to know in what part of the South such parish is situated and the name of the Rector. Having had several years experience both as amateur organist and as leading voice in the Choir of the Church of which I am a communicant, and having been ordered south by my Physician on account of a slight bronchial affection, perhaps an arrangement might be made that would be agreeable to all parties.
For family and position I would refer to Bishop Potter1 of this Diocese, who is a personal friend of my father,2 also to Bishop Elliott3 of Georgia, and for qualifications, to Rev. Mr. Bedell,4 my former Pastor, at present Rector of the Church of the Ascension N. Y., and also to the Rev. Dr. Balch,5 my present pastor, formerly Rector of St. Bartholomew's Church N. Y.
In stating farther particulars address Miss Sallie P. Darlington, Care of Dr. William Darlington,2 West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
