His surname is spelled Gouge in his marriage record and on his death certificate, and in the birth records for all of his children. But it's spelled Geouge on his cemetery marker, in his wife Winnie's obituary, and in most (but not all) of the other records for his children.
He was a truck driver.2

He and his wife Winnie moved to Perrin, Gloucester Co., Virginia, sometime between 1950, when their son Charles was born in Yancey Co., North Carolina, and 1954, when Henry died at their home in Perrin.8,6
Over the years he worked as a farmer, as a steam laborer for the railroad, and as a salesman and assistant district manager for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia.10 His death certificate lists his occupation as a salesman for Home Comfort Stoves.9
