     Newton Gouge was born on 6 March 1908 in North Carolina.3,2,4 He married Winnie Lou Hall, daughter of William Andrew Hall and Mary Ella Bowditch, on 27 April 1930 in Celo, Yancey Co., North Carolina.1 He died on 28 January 1938 in South Toe Twp., Yancey Co., at age 29 from a heart attack.2 He was buried on 29 January 1938 at Carroway Cemetery in Celo.2
     His surname is spelled Gouge in his marriage record and on his death certificate, and in the birth records for all of his children. But it's spelled Geouge on his cemetery marker, in his wife Winnie's obituary, and in most (but not all) of the other records for his children.
     He was a truck driver.2

     Henry Thornton Barker was born on 6 October 1883 in Milton, Caswell Co., North Carolina.3 He married first Lottie Lea Chandler on 14 October 1906 in Caswell Co.4 He married second Estelle Barker on 10 December 1943 at the Methodist Parsonage in Burlington Twp., Alamance Co., North Carolina.5 He married third Winnie Lou Hall, daughter of William Andrew Hall and Mary Ella Bowditch, sometime between February 1946, when Winnie was called Winnie Gouge in her father's obituary, and November 1950, when their son Charles was born.1,6,7,8 He died on 10 November 1954 at home in Perrin, Gloucester Co., Virginia, at age 71 from heart disease.9,6 He was buried on 13 November 1954 at Gloucester Point Cemetery in Gloucester Co.9
     He and his wife Winnie moved to Perrin, Gloucester Co., Virginia, sometime between 1950, when their son Charles was born in Yancey Co., North Carolina, and 1954, when Henry died at their home in Perrin.8,6
     Over the years he worked as a farmer, as a steam laborer for the railroad, and as a salesman and assistant district manager for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia.10 His death certificate lists his occupation as a salesman for Home Comfort Stoves.9
