• [S572] Obituary, Carl Wilhelm Hanson. This appears to be cut from a church bulletin or publication. Photocopy in possession of Charles Towne, Brecksville, Ohio.
  • [S578] Agda Lindberg Johnson, Funeral Bulletin, 18 July 1988. In possession of Jeanne Bowditch.
  • [S584] Letter(s) from W. F. Schuetz (unknown author address) to Jeanne Bowditch, 22 June 1984. In possession of David Bowditch, Fairview Park, Ohio. There are two letters, both un-addressed, possibly hand-delivered, and both dated 22 June 1984.

The first letter includes a photocopy of a hand-written note in German, apparently by Louise (Hogrefe) Dobbeck, listing the birth dates and locations of her children. In its entirety, the letter reads:

The original of this informal note was found in the old DOBBECK family Bible which Wally and Lucille Dobbeck Schuetz received from Lucille's parents, William Christopher Henry and Lillian Remus Dobbeck. The writing is that of Louise Hogrefe Dobbeck, wife of August Dobbeck. They were married on April 15, 1891, and she used to tell us of how she crocheted the lace for the baptismal dress of her children while watching the cows on the road before the first child was born. Translated into English, the note reads as follows:

"William Dobbeck was born on March 1, 1892 in Itasca, Ill.
August (Herman John) Dobbeck was born on June 20, 1893 in Meacham, Ill.
Frederick Dobbeck was born December 16, 1894 in Meacham, Ill.
Minna Dobbeck was born January 28,1897 in Chicago, Ill.
Arthur Dobbeck was born May 15, 1899 in Chicago, Ill.
Albert Dobbeck was born March 19, 1902 in Chicago, Ill.
Edward Dobbeck was born July 23, 1905 in Austin, Chicago, Ill."

This is the end of the note. Grandma Dobbeck's quaint, simple, mostly German story of the birth of her children strokes a most poignant in the hearts of all those who fondly remember her. Lucille and Wally have the original of this note at home.

The second letter includes the original of a hand-written note in German, apparently by Wilhelmina (Hackbarth) (Dobbeck) Froehlich, the mother of August Julius Dobbeck and grandmother of Edward Dobbeck. In its entirety, the letter reads:

The original of this letter was found in the old DOBBECK family Bible, which Wally and Lucille Dobbeck Schuetz received from her parents, William Christopher Henry Dobbeck and Lillian Remus Dobbeck. Translated into English it reads:

    "26th August, 1905.
I wish for this little Godchild that he may grow
well, that he prosper and that God and everyone
will be glad and thankful. This wishes

    Your Grandmother,
    M. Froehlich."

The writer of this letter was the Mother of Ausust Dobbeck. She had been widowed, and taken a second husband. August Dobbeck was the father of Edward Ernest Dobbeck, who was born July 23, 1905 to Louise Hogrefe Dobbeck, the wife of August.

The Godchild referred to in Grandma Froehlich's letter was our own "Uncle Ed".
