Biography"John Longley, one of these [Indian] captives, was redeemed by his friends in 1700, and afterwards resided in Groton, and was one of its most worthy citizens. He was many years parish and town treasurer; town clerk six years, 1723 to 1726, and 1728 and 1729; representative in the General Court three years, 1729 to 1731; and deacon in the church from 1722 until his death, which occurred May 25, 1750, ae. 67."

Boston Transcript, 7/19/1909: Chandler's 'History of Shirley' says John Longley married for his second wife, Deborah Houghton. He died May 25, 1750. She died Nov. 7, 1763. They were married Nov. 30, 1720. He was carried away captive by Indians, town clerk of Groton six years, deacon of the church from 1722 till his death, town and parish treasurer many years, representative to the General Court thre years, had nine sons and three daughters--seven children by Deborah."
