Biography

He attended Lebanon High School and graduated in 1946. He received a scholarship to Oregon State College. In 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and served repairing watches in San Francisco until 1948. He completed his B.S. in mechanical engineering at the University of California in June, 1952. He taught engineering graphics at Iowa State College in Ames and received his M.S. in mechanical engineering in Dec. 1955. They moved to Ithaca, NY where Ken took a position teaching at Cornell University, then as a research engineer for IBM in San Jose, CA. He was awarded a fellowship by IBM to finish his graduate work, and finished his Ph.D. in engineering from U.C. Berkeley, in 1964. He continued to work for IBM. From 1957 to 1977 he worked primarily on data storage device development (the Winchester technology). In 1977 he was transferred to Lexington, KY to direct the IBM engineering lab there. They returned to Los Gatos in 1980 when Ken became the director of the San Jose IBM laboratory. He became the Dean of Engineering at the University of Santa Clara 18 months later until Feb 1983 when he retired. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1982. They were very active in the Episcopalian church. He and Beverly were active genealogists and published four volumes of their respective genealogies.
Ken has given generously of his time and money for over 39 years to California Genealogical Society (CGS). He was CFO for many years and has served on our board of directors.⁵

After a variety of nursing positions, she received a B.S. in accounting at San Jose State in 1975. She started her own accounting business. She was an active genealogist and published, with Ken, 4 genealogical volumes.²

St. George, UT, USA, St. George, UT - Russell Barrett Haughton passed away May 9, 2010. He was surrounded by loving family after a long struggle with cancer. Russell was born June 3, 1959 in Downey, California to Delos Richard and Carolyn Haughton. Russell is survived by his parents, Richard and Carolyn Haughton; twin brother, Martin Richard; brother, Aaron Elwood; and sister, Kari Elizabeth. He is also survived by his children: Jesse Barrett, Rachel Lee, and Vince Blackburn Comer Haughton, the children of Brenda Blackburn and Lori Wilson. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221
