Biography

Gail Clarke: Ida Kate Akey (1857 - ) married Ithiel S. Bailey, Jr. (1855 - 1933) on Feb. 28, 1876 and moved to Sac County, IA for about 4 years. They returned to Grinnell in 1884,
where Ithiel and Andrew Foster had a partnership in the farm implement business and a hardware store. After the men dissolved the partnership, Ithiel continued in
the hardware and grocery business in downtown Grinnell. He was secretary for the Grinnell County Fair for several years. He also was a member of the Poweshiek
County Republican Central Committee for several years, and was a member of the school board in the 1890's. He also provided the information for Jenette's death
certificate. In his retirement, he wrote articles about farm news for the Grinnell Herald. He died of cancer and is buried in the Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.⁴
