GOUVERNEUR -- Mr. and Mrs. Jerry J. Houghton, Route 58, observed their 30th wedding anniversary Aug. 3. They celebrated the occasion at a surprise party given by their families July 26 at the home of Mrs. Houghton's mother, Frieda Kent, Evans Mills.

Mr. Houghton, son of James Houghton, Evans Mills, and the late Jane Houghton, was married to Cande L. Kent, daughter of Mrs. Kent and the late Harry B. Kent, Aug. 3, 1968, at Philadelphia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Hutchinson officiating.

Honor attendants were Connie L. Vanderbogart Haver, Depauville, and James Doxtater, Calcium.

Their wedding day was also the date of the bridegroom's parents' 25th wedding anniversary, and the 52nd wedding anniversary of his grandparents, the late Elmer and Pauline Barr Houghton.

Mrs. Houghton graduated from Indian River Central School, Philadelphia, in 1967, and from Jefferson Community College, Watertown, in 1997. She was a homemaker until opening Marble City Travel in September 1991.

Mr. Houghton also graduated from Indian River Central in 1968, and from Canton Agricultural and Technical College in 1968. He served for two years in the Army as a military policeman at Fort Devens, Mass. He has been employed by Kinney Drugs Inc. for the past 26 years.

He is past president of the Gouverneur Kiwanis Club and a member of the Gouverneur Country Club and the Clare and Bearing Hunting clubs.

They both enjoy playing golf and traveling.

The couple has two sons, Jeremy, Virginia Beach, Va., and Jason, Merna, Neb.¹
