I am researching the trial of New York Supreme Court, Kings County – Fanny A. Stearns, et al. plaintiffs, against Cora Chapman, et al. defendants – City of Brooklyn, county of Kings, ss: February 1, 1893.
This trial was one in which the remaining heirs of Mr. Chapman were suing to compel the administrators of his estate to appoint a receiver. I am publishing a book on the three trials of Cora Chapman, this being a side-suit to the third. In her first trial, she put one of my great-grandfathers in prison for assault, (and rightly so). In her second trial, she had her husband committed to a sanatorium. In her third trial, she sued her attorney for mismanagement of her estate.
Fannie A. Stearns was one of the remaindermen, (i.e. one of the remaining
heirs who would benefit from the Chapman estate upon final distribution). I
am not sure how she was related to George Marcus Chapman. To be referred to
as "Stearns," she must have been a sister or a niece. She was not his
daughter nor his remarried wife.
