Red Bluff - Eleanor Louise Houghton, 98, entered into the next phase of her spiritual journey on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Lassen House Memory Care Community, Red Bluff. Committal services will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 1, 2005. In honor of Eleanor a memorial will be conducted at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 1, 2005 in the Sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church of Red Bluff. The Rev. Graham J. Baird, Interim Pastor of the Church will officiate.
Born, Eleanor Louise Mansfield, December 12, 1906 in Wallingford, Comm., at a young age she moved to Colton, CA and later to Ontario, CA where Eleanor graduated from Chaffey High School, Class of 1925. Following her marriage to Paul C.B. Houghton, they lived in Los Angeles, CA. In September 1947 the family, including two daughters moved to West of Proberta, CA and for two years farmed 80 acres. Subsequently the family relocated in Red Bluff. Eleanor was an accomplished seamstress and was involved with many activities during her lifetime. The following gave her much enjoyment: Member of The Westwood Congregational Church, Sunday School Superintendent and member of the choir, Westwood Elementary School P.T.A., and Los Angeles Camp Fire Girls District Chairman. All the before mentioned took place in Los Angeles, CA. In Red Bluff she was a twenty year member of the Presbyterian Church, jointly owned with her husband the Red Bluff Sewing Center, an active participant of the Camp Fire Girls program and member of the Red Bluff Women's Club. She served on The 1975 Grand Jury. Eleanor also had a short career in clerking, first with J.C. Penney in the Yardage department located in the basement on Walnut Street and transferring to the new location on Main Street. Also included Knowles Bakery and Quality Fabrics located across from the Red Bluff Post Office. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Paul of 57 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Eunice Hetzel of Fallbrook, CA, daughter, Lenore and husband James R. Howell, and Patricia and husband Don Rose, grandchildren Brinda and husband Russ Whipple, Pamela and husband Bruce Maret, James P. Howell and life partner Kathy Brady, Lori Miles and husband Larry Ball, Greg and wife Linda Rose, greatgrandchildren Misty and husband Bernie Villavicencio, Kristi and husband Scott Gadbois, Nicole and Katie Maret, Celia and Breanna Rose, Matthew and Gregory Miles, Laurie Ball and Ashley and Travis Whipple. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins. Eleanor was proud of and loved each of her family members. Eleanor's wishes were, in lieu of flowers, contributions to be made to the Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 246, Red Bluff, CA 96080 or St. Elizabeth Hospice, 1425 Vista Way, Red Bluff, CA 96080. Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers is handling the arrangements.2

Luke Daniel Houghton, 24, of Kempner died Nov. 12, 2005, at his residence.
His body was cremated and transported to Utah where a funeral service will be held with full military honors.
Mr. Houston [sic] was born May 15, 1981, in Vernal, Utah, to T.R. and Jana Gray Houghton.
He graduated early from high school in Vernal and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Houghton went to Iraq and fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
After being honorably discharged, Houghton was a firefighter at Fort Hood.
He is survived by his parents of Vernal; a sister, Alanea Houghton, of Vernal; two brothers, Justin Jacobsen, stationed at Camp LeJeune, and Gabriel Houghton, of Vernal.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Olin Barker Houghton, 80, formerly of Harwich, died Oct. 25 of pulmonary edema/congestive heart failure.
He was the husband of Margaret M. (Musterman) Houghton.
Mr. Houghton was born in Boston and educated in Wellesley. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces in 1943 and served as a ball-turret gunner in a B-24 in Italy, where he survived a plane crash and was MIA until escaping down the Po River in 1944.
Six weeks later, he was captured as a POW after parachuting from a disabled B-24. He was liberated at the end of World War II.
Mr. Houghton was a graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine and earned degrees in education and special education from Florida State University and the University of Oregon.
He was an English teacher at Chatham High School in the 1960s, and an education consultant for SRA from 1967 to 1980. He also taught special education in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, in the 1980s.
He loved the outdoors, the Red Sox and the Arizona Wildcats. He left behind a gallery of photographs of his journeys.
Besides his wife, survivors include four daughters, Christina Kemprecos of Dennisport, Perrianne Houghton of Rio Rancho, N.M., Toni Houghton of Marstons Mills and Julie Houghton of Fairbanks, Alaska; a stepson, Rick Bond of San Francisco; a stepdaughter, Pamela DeMauro of Hickory, N.C; two brothers, Bruce and Geoffrey Houghton, both of Tampa, Fla; his former wife, Anne D. Curran of Harwich; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were in Tucson. An additional gathering will be next year on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
