May 21, 2010 at The Place in Martinez. Mr. Roscoe Jackson "Corky" Houghton, 92. He was born to Roscoe J. Houghton, Sr. and Flossie Mae Cooper Houghton on Dec. 20, 1917, in Bessemer, Alabama. He was preceded in death by both parents and 4 siblings. He was a Veteran of WWII where he served in the Pacific. After the war he attended Toccoa Falls Bible Institute where he majored in Church Music. While there he met and married his loving wife of 63 years, Nellie Ruth Ayers Houghton. With a Musical background he conducted choirs and congregational music in several churches including his home church, Martinez Baptist Church where he was a charter member of 44 years. He was retired maintenance welder from South Carolina Electric and Gas Company in Beach Island, SC. He is survived by his wife, 4 children, 10 Grandchildren and 5 Great grandchildren. Daughter: Melody H. Quinn (Sonny), Charlene H. Bagwell (Dwight), Pauline H. Chambers all of Martinez. Son: Charles C. Houghton (Linda) Lilburn, Ga. Memorial Services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 AM at Martinez Baptist Church Rev. Phillip Winsett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church 1 Hour prior to service. Stanley G. Houghton, 71, of Philipstown, a former postal worker and dancer, died of complications due to lung cancer yesterday at Peekskill Community Hospital. Mr. Houghton lived in the Bronx until 10 years ago, when he moved to Philipstown. He was a supervisor for the main New York City post office on 34th Street and owner of a dance studio in the Bronx. He married Santa Ceraolo in 1940. The couple danced professionally in theaters and nightclubs in a number of cities, including New York City and Philadelphia. Mr. Houghton enjoyed photography, his wife said. Mr. Houghton was born Dec. 24, 1916, in Jersey City, N.J., to Carlton and Freida Waldhauer Houghton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended the University Heights Presbyterian Church in the Bronx. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son. Stanley of Philipstown; two brothers, Wallace of Ridgefield Park, N.J., and Howard of Metuchen, N.J; a sister, Edith Hunter of Bayonne, N.J; and a grandchild.

City traffic claimed its 13th victim of the year here at 2:25 p. m. yesterday with the death of Mrs. Myrtle Hoyt, 609 N. Sixth-av.
The 53-year-old woman died in St. Mary’s Hospital of injuries suffered at 11:40 a. m. in an accident at Delaware Street and Fulton Avenue. She never regained consciousness.
Following an autopsy this morning, Coroner Victor Conen attributed death to a fractured skull and brain concussion.

Police and the coroner reported Mrs. Hoyt was struck by a car driven by William Henry Houghton, 39, Louisville. They said the pedestrian was crossing Fulton but was in a painted safety island in the middle of the street.
Mr. Houghton, they reported,

was making: a left turn onto Fulton Avenue.
Arrested on a reckless driving charge, Mr. Houghton was later released from jail on bond. His case was continued to Aug. 19 in • ity Court Tuesday.

Mrs. Hoyt’s death raises the traffic fatality toll in Vanderburgh County so far this year to 25. It was the first city fatality
this month. There were only nine traffic deaths in the city during 1948.
The victim is survived by: husband, William; daughters, Mrs. Helen DeVillez and Mrs. Ollie Elizabeth Austrew, Evansville; sisters, Mrs. Helen Dixon

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Peggie; a son, Kip Durney, Boston; two daughters, Kelley Daly, Deltona, and Miranda Hickman, Haverhill, Mass; his father, John Houghton, Manchester, N.H; his mother, Marion Houghton, Portland, Maine; a brother, Tim, Palm Coast; a sister, Elizabeth Abbot, Readfield, Maine; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to The Frank Cimerol Scholarship Fund, St. John's Preparatory School, 72 Spring St., Danvers, MA 01923. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.2

DELTONA, Fla. -- John E. Houghton, 53, died Dec. 11, 2005, of heart failure.

He was born in Sanford, Maine, May 27, 1952, to John A. and Marion F. (Thayer) Houghton Jr. He graduated from St. John's Preparatory School, the University of Maine at Orono, and earned a master's degree from the University of Vermont.

He was a longtime resident of Massachusetts before moving to Indiana in 1997 and has resided in Deltona since 2000.

Mr. Houghton was a respected educator and instructor. Early in his career he taught English and most enjoyed teaching at St. John's Preparatory School, his alma mater. He went on to work for the State of Massachusetts as deputy registrar of motor vehicles prior to becoming chief of staff. He went on to pursue entrepreneurial interests and most recently served as a corporate trainer for CarStar Collision Service.

In addition to being a loving and devoted family man and a loyal, trusted friend, Mr. Houghton possessed an avid love for motorcycles, music, literature, skiing and fine cigars.

Family includes his wife, Peggie Houghton of Deltona; daughters Miranda Hickman and husband Jeff of Haverill, Mass., Kelley Daly and husband Michael of Deltona; son Kip Durney and wife Val of Boston, Mass; two grandsons, Griffin and Graeme Daly of Deltona; his father, John A. Houghton and wife Angela of Manchester, N.H; his mother Marion F. Houghton of Portland, Maine; a sister Elizabeth Abbott and husband Steve of Readfield, Maine; a brother, Tim Houghton of Palm Coast, Fla; a niece Katie Abbott; a nephew Ken Abbott and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 266 Cypress Street in Manchester, N.H. A memorial service will be held in the Deltona area at the beginning of 2006.
