Gary Gene Houghton Age 68, of Duvall, WA, passed away April 1, 2015. Committal service with military honors 1:30 pm Friday, April 17, at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA. Memorial service 11 am Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the LDS Church, 32751 NE 45th St., Carnation, WA.³

Lancaster, PA, USA, Gary Houghton: I had an opportunity to spend quite a bit of time there, we lived for 3 years in Lytham and we met Lord and Lady Hoghton. They invited us to attend several events at the mansion. We had the opportunity to sit at the head family table. Lady Hoghton is Italian and had several of her family members at some of the events, they always bought the wine.
Anyway Lord Hoghton shared his family tree that went back to the original land grant in 1068 and we were able to see where Thomas fit into the family tree. The original name evidently is De Hoghton, from the Belgium area, and they were part of William the Conqueror invasion.
One interesting side note is in the Lancaster Castle. In the civil court section of the castle the back wall is an arc and contains the coats of arms of the Lord High Sheriffs and the Mayors. The Houghton coat of arms appears for the first time around 1350 as the sheriff. It appears several times thereafter.
We have been able to trace back to Thomas Houghton, when he and his brother emigrated, but can't find the port he arrived at in the USA. We do know they settled in Lancaster PA. Evidently one of the brothers, not sure which one, went on to Michigan and then to Washington.

We came from the line Thomas Houghton who emigrated from Liverpool in the mid 1800s. He originated from Hoghton Towers/Lancaster England area.¹
