My last name is Horton. I have found certain Haughton lines in New England that later spelled their name as Horton. An example would be Richard Haughton of Salem MA and his son Joseph Haughton of New London, CT. I also have found a few examples of the Houghton line were they were listed as Horton. The earliest Horton I can trace in my Line is a Joseph Horton, born abt 1756 in Ct and came to Oyster Bay Long Island, NY about 1780 where he then married Janetje Probasco in 1780. My DNA did not match Barnabus Horton who we all thought we were related to.
I have been busy entering all the Horton, Haughton and Houghton from New England into my Family Tree, to see if I can find any connections.
I would greatly appreciated participating in the Houghton DNA project even if it is too eliminate lines. I have manually entered and sourced over 80,000 names in my Family Tree program of my direct lines and related families and possible connecting families.
