Nancy C. Houghton 76 of Gallatin passed away Thursday May 3, 2012 at her home. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to the Daviess County Library in care of the Funeral Home.

Nancy C. Houghton was born December 29, 1935 to Armond and Georgia (Thompson) Hamilton near Civil Bend, MO. She graduated from Gallatin High School in 1953. During school Nancy began her banking career working part time at the First National Bank in Gallatin and after graduation she worked full time as supervisor of the bookkeeping department. Nancy was united in marriage to Tom Houghton January 30, 1954 in Gallatin where the couple lived all their married life. To this union 2 sons were born, Phil and Greg, she delighted in taking care of their every need. Nancy continued to work at the bank where she dedicated 46 years of faithful service. Always putting the customers needs first. Nancy retired in 1998 looking forward to a slower pace and spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren.

Nancy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gallatin. She was a long time member of the Daviess County Democrat Committee where she served as chair person for several years. She also was a member of the Gallatin Chapter of the American Business Women Association. Nancy was community minded and was always willing to share her time and talents for the good of the community. Nancy and Tom greatly enjoyed going to auctions and especially liked to go to the produce auction in Jamesport. She loved to garden and looked forward each year when she could begin planting. She was a wonderful cook and especially like to bake, she was instrumental in teaching her grandkids how to cook and loved every minute of the task. She looked forward to the time when she and Tom could go fishing; just spending time outside was a treat. Each day you could find the couple on their daily walk always taking the time to visit or wave at a friend. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, Nancy was a people person; her warm smile would light up a room and her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone made her the special lady she was. Nancy’s family was her pride and joy; her passion and zest for life will live on through them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Norma Davis.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 58 years Tom of the home, 2 sons, Phil Houghton and wife Ronda of Gilbert, AZ. Greg Houghton and wife Linda of Gallatin, grandchildren, Brian Houghton and companion Candy, Shauna Houghton, Courtney Lybarger and husband Denver, Garett Houghton her great grandchildren, Jordan Lewis and Eleanor Lybarger.¹

Lois M. Houghton, 91 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska formerly of Gallatin passed away Monday June, 26, 2017. Friends may call after 11am Friday at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial is at Greenwood Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Lois was born April 17, 1926 at her parent’s home near Gallatin. She was the second child born to George and Elizabeth (Holmes) Terrill. Her sister was Doris Hill and her brothers are Jule Terrill and Don Terrill. She attended Gallatin school most of her school days, but attended Jameson school for 6th grade and 7th & 8th grade at a one room country school. Her high school graduation at Gallatin was in 1944. When she was a senior in high school, she started working at the Davis Drug store where she met Bill Houghton. They were married September 22, 1946 at her parent’s home in Gallatin and resided on a farm 6 miles north of Gallatin; in 1974, the couple made their home on the 3rd generation farm north of Gallatin where Bill and Lois lived most of their life. They have two children, Martha (Houghton) Allen and Ronald Houghton. Lois had many positions such as working for Headstart, working at the Gallatin Library, and her last position was being secretary at the Winston school.

Lois became a Christian early in life. She was always active in the First Baptist Church in Gallatin such as teaching Sunday School, leading Girls Auxiliary or singing in the choir. She knew Jesus personally and was always an example for others.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, and her older sister.

Lois is survived by her son Ron Houghton and wife Judy of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, daughter Martha Allen and husband Larry of Bellevue, Nebraska, brothers, Jule Terrill and wife Beverly of Gallatin., Missouri and Don Terrill and wife Arlene of Muskegon, Michigan, 7 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
