James Sherrod, 82, of Columbus, GA. died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Vista Care Center at Franciscan Woods.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. 31907 with Reverend Hank Reeves officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Sherrod was born in Stewart County, Georgia on September 25, 1928 to the late James Sherrod, Sr. and Jimmie Rosa Lee Hill Sherrod. He has lived in Columbus all of his life and was retired from Newman Construction Company where he worked as the Office/Project Manager for many years. He served as Past President of the Columbus Exchange Club and Past President of the District Exchange Club. Mr. Sherrod served as Vice Chairman of the Columbus Better Government Association.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy H. Sherrod of Columbus; a daughter, Karen Marie Floyd of Smyrna, GA; three sons, Anthony James Sherrod of Sedonia, AZ, Donald Allen Sherrod of Columbus and Dr. Michael Joseph Sherrod and wife, Mariella of Wilton, ME; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Tabb of Phenix City, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our daughter, mother and grandmother. Linda will be deeply missed by her husband of 35 years William 'Bill'; children William Jr., Wendy, Tanya, Joshua, Matthew and special daughter Madison; grandchildren Talisia, Rachel, Andrew and Steven; mother Violet Nahanee; and brothers Donald 'Onsie', Kenny (Janet), Eddy (Samantha); and sisters Sarah (Tony), Judy (Steven) and Vickie (Joe). Linda is remembered for volunteering at the Squamish Nation pow-wow for many years. Her dedication to family and relatives involved traveling to local and distant events and she truly is an inspiration to those who practice our beliefs and customs. A prayer service will be held on April 2, 2014 (Wednesday) at 7:00 pm; and a funeral service on April 3, 2014 (Thursday) at 10:30 am, both at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, 100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver, BC. BiographySamuel Hovey, born in Lyme, N. H., Oct. 20, 1774. He was a man of ordinary stature, with blue eyes and brown hair ; a farmer ; and lived in Brookfield, Vt., being a Baptist in religious belief. He was social and friendly, and much respected, being a justice of the peace. He married, first, Amy, daughter of Benjamin and Amy (Darby) Billings Nov. 15, 1798, in Brookfield. She was sister of his brother Rufus C. Hovey's wife, and was born in New London, Conn., May 5, 1780. She died in Brook- field Feb. 13, 1836; and he married, second, Phyletta, daughter of Timothy and Eunice (Houghton) Kendall Dec. 7, 1836. She was born in Williamstown, Vt., Oct. 7, 1800; and died in Brookfield July 22, 1872. He died July 25, 1856, at the age of eighty-one.
Mr. Hovey's children were born in Brookfield, as follows:
I. Grace, born Dec. 3, 1799; died Sept 4, 1802, at the age of two.
II. Samuel Willis', born Sept 25, 1801.
III. Abiel', born Nov. 25, 1803; died Nov. 25, 1805.
IV. Alvan', born Dec. 4, 1804.
V. Grace', born in 1807; died in 1807.
VI. Permelia', bom Oct. 4, 1809; married Bela, son of Rufus and Mary (Wells) Downing March 17, 1833, in Brookfield.

BiographyHiram Chafey's name is found as both Chafey and Chaffee in historical records. His entry is #851 in The Chaffee Genealogy, by William Henry Chaffee, 1909, p.230:

"Hiram 6 Chafey (Jonathan Cady 5, Josiah 4, Joseph 3, Joseph 2, Thomas 1) was born in Tunbridge, Vt., February 5, 1799, and died in Albany, Vt., September 21, 1872. He married in Williamstown, Vt., January 17, 1824, Asenath, daughter of Timothy Kendall of that place. She died in September, 1881. Hiram Chafey was a farmer, and in 1824 lived in Brookfield, Vt. He moved from there in 1831 to Albany, where he was living at the time of his death, and where he and his wife are buried."
