I live in the UK and my mother is an Houghton. My last known Houghton ancestor is Benjamin Houghton, born Finedon (then known as Thingdon) in Northamptonshire on 9 September 1739. His parents appear to be John Houghton and Mary (possibly Roydon) and potentially from Lancashire, which is my next line of inquiry. It is most likely that I would have a common ancestor in the USA but would be interested in from whom. Anecdotally John, Benjamin and Benjamin's children all moved within the UK, which was maybe unusual for the time.

James F. Haughton, 86. a nationally published sports- writer and retired TV Guide executive, died Sept. 23 In Orange. Conn. Bom in Mantua, Wyo., he was a son of the lat« James and Nellie Sheehy Haughton. He lived In Wynnewood, a Philadelphia suburb), for many years. He grew up In Frackville, and graduated from Frackville High School and Vlllanova University. In 1975, he received a master's degree in His lengthy writing career began during his high school years, when be worked during the summers for the Shenandoah Evening Herald. After college, he wrote for the Philadelphia Record and served as publicity and sports Information director for Vilanova. A correspondent for Editor & Publisher and longtime columnist for Basketball Weekly and Football News, he attended 19 Super Bowl games. At TV Guide, he directed publicity for 32 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Norma Gaughan, formerty of Mahanoy Plane.
Surviving are a daughter. Anne, wife of Timothy Schmitt; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Schmitt, Woodbridge, Conn; a sister, Katherine McOinley, Overland Park, Kan; a niece. Dr. Kathleen Haughton McGinley, Alexandria, Va. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Presentation BVM Church, Wynne- wood. Interment was in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Prackville. William C. McConaghy Ltd., Funeral Horae, Ardmore, was in charge of arrangements.
