ObituarySharon Renee Framstead

January 25, 1943 - December 14, 2020

Sharon Renee Framstead passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020. Born January 25, 1943 in San Diego, CA. She grew up in Lincoln, attending Saratoga Elementary, Irving Jr. High, and Lincoln High. She attended UNL, majoring in journalism. Sharon was a very creative person who was always learning. As she moved around Sharon had an amazing variety of jobs ranging from; supervising a computer dept. at Hughes Aircraft in CA, to raising orchids while she lived in New York, landscaping, and interior design for many homes in Lincoln. She was curious about everything, reading a novel one day and a book by Stephen Hawking the next. In her mid-sixties she became interested in painting and started painting with her next-door neighbor. She developed into an excellent landscape painter. In retirement Sharon loved to read, paint, and raise orchids. When Sharon moved back to Lincoln in 1996 after living in New York she wanted a little adventure. She contacted Crete Skydiving Center and arranged for a tandem skydive. She was so enraptured by that jump she trained to jump solo and did her first solo in 1997. She went on to have over 200 solo jumps and even did more tandem jumps in her 70's. It was one of the greatest joys of her life. Another great joy in her life was her little dog Lucy Ann. Survivors include daughters, Shelley Tamasi and Brittany Furr; 6 grandchildren, Chelsea Trendler, Bailey and Dylan McAllister, Bianca, Lindsey, Rianna Tamasi. She is preceded in death by son, Jeffery Puls. A Celebration of Sharon's Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given in Sharon and Lucy's names to the Capitol Humane Society. Condolences online at Roperandsons.com.

ObituaryBrittany Houghton Furr, 58, of Arvada, Colorado passed away on October 5th, 2023 after unexpected complications during heart surgery. Brittany was born on March 5th, 1965 to Houghton Furr Jr and Sharon (Framstead) Furr, in Lincoln, Nebraska, She attended Prescott, Randolph, and Rousseau Elementary, as well as Pound Middle School, and Lincoln Southeast High School. After school, she spent a handful of years making the sort of memories that only the 1980's could make, before becoming a nurse, a profession she excelled at until her passing. She dabbled in other areas of professional interest like real estate, cosmetics, and wellness, but always came back to healthcare in hopes of giving others long, healthy, fulfilling lives.

She was an unrepentant animal lover and a huge advocate of adopting rescued dogs. Her fur babies were often even more spoiled than her actual children. When she wasn't narrating the lives of Harry and Boo, she spent her time singing to her numerous plants, painting abstract artwork, collecting crystals, and exploring her adopted state of Colorado.

Brittany was preceded in passing by her mother, Sharon, and her beloved best friend and father, Houghtie, as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents, brother Jeffrey Puls, and brother-in-law Henry Tamasi. She leaves behind so many who love and miss her, including daughter, Bailey McAllister, and son, Dylan McAllister, both of Arvada, CO, sister, Shelley Tamasi of Schuyler, NE, sister Myra (Daniel) Walker of Lincoln, NE, nieces Chelsea (Nick) Trendler of Ewing Township, NJ, Bianca (Derek) Jones of Seward, NE, Lindsay Tamasi, Rianna Tamasi, and Bella Walker, all of Lincoln, NE, and granddaughter Annalyse Cookston of Cortland, NE. She also leaves behind numerous friends and chosen heart family, along with most of Bailey and Dylan's friends, who all knew her as Mama Boo.

A celebration of life will be held in Lincoln, NE at a later date in November. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brittany's Memorial GoFundMe (https://gofund.me/7a3c86a9) or in Brittany's memory to Hearts United for Animals in Auburn, NE.

Until we meet again, remember to love your pets, hug your loved ones, and laugh as much as possible, even at silly things. Especially at silly things.

John Houghton, OCart (c. 1486 – 4 May 1535) was a Catholic priest of the Carthusian order and the first martyr to die as a result of the Act of Supremacy by King Henry VIII of England. He was also the first of the Carthusians to die as a martyr. As one of the Carthusian Martyrs of London he is among the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.[3]
Early life

Born around 1487, Houghton was (according to one of his fellow Carthusians) educated at Cambridge, but cannot be identified among surviving records.[4] Similarly, no certain records can be found of his ordination.

It is said that he escaped an arranged marriage as soon as he completed his education and took refuge with a devout priest.[5]
Monastic life

He joined the London Charterhouse in 1516, progressed to be sacristan in 1523, and procurator in 1528.[1] In 1531, he became prior of the Beavale in Nottinghamshire. However, in November of that year, he was elected prior of the London house, to which he returned.[6] In addition, the following spring he was named Provincial Visitor, at the head of the English Carthusians.[1]

In April 1534, two royal agents visited the Charterhouse. Houghton advised them that "it pertained not to his vocation and calling nor to that of his subjects to meddle in or discuss the king's business, neither could they or ought they to do so, and that it did not concern him who the king wished to divorce or marry, so long as he was not asked for any opinion."[2] He asked that he and his community be exempted from the oath required under the new Act of Succession, which resulted in both him and his procurator, Humphrey Middlemore, being arrested and taken to the Tower of London. However, by the end of May, they had been persuaded that the oath was consistent with their Catholicism, with the clause "as far as the law of Christ allows" and they returned to the Charterhouse, where (in the presence of a large armed force) the whole community made the required professions.[2]
Arrest and execution

However, in 1535, the community was called upon to make the new oath as prescribed by the 1534 Act of Supremacy, which recognised Henry as the Supreme Head of the Church of England. Again, Houghton, this time accompanied by the heads of the other two English Carthusian houses (Robert Lawrence, prior of Beauvale, and Augustine Webster, prior of Axholme), pleaded for an exemption, but this time they were summarily arrested. They were called before a special commission in April 1535, and sentenced to death, along with Richard Reynolds, a monk from Syon Abbey.[6]

Houghton, along with the other two Carthusians, Reynolds and John Haile of Isleworth, was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn on 4 May 1535.[7]

The three priors were taken to Tyburn in their religious habits and were not previously laicised from the priesthood and religious state as was the custom of the day. From his prison cell in the Tower, Thomas More saw the three Carthusian priors being dragged to Tyburn on hurdles and exclaimed to his daughter: "Look, Meg! These blessed Fathers be now as cheerfully going to their deaths as bridegrooms to their marriage!" John Houghton was the first to be executed. After he was hanged, he was taken down alive, and the process of quartering him began.

Catholic tradition relates that when Houghton was about to be quartered, as the executioner tore open his chest to remove his heart, he prayed, "O Jesus, what wouldst thou do with my heart?". His companions were butchered next. After his death, his body was chopped to pieces and hung in different parts of London.
Legacy

He was beatified on 29 December 1886 by Pope Leo XIII and canonized on 25 October 1970 by Pope Paul VI.

There is a mosaic of Houghton in the Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Oxford Road, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester.[8]

A painting of the Carthusian protomartyr by the noted painter Francisco Zurbarán, depicts him with his heart in his hand and a noose around his neck.

In the Chapter house of St. Hugh's Charterhouse in England, there is a painting depicting the martyrdom of the three priors.

There are stained glass windows of Saint John Houghton in the following churches:

St. Dominic's Priory Church in London[9][10]
Our Lady and the English Martyrs in Cambridge[11][12]
Belmont Abbey outside Hereford[13]
St. Mark's Church in Mansfield[14]
Shrewsbury Cathedral, he is next to Thomas More in the fifth window.[15]

St John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy is named in his honor.
