Turner at the Falls on the Connecticut River between the present towns of Gill and Montague, where on the 18th of May 1676 a large body of Indians belonging to the forces of King Philip were surprised and about 300 of their number met death, either in battle or by attempted flight, being precipitated down the cataract, while the English are reported to have lost but one man. By virtue of the service here rendered the General Court on the 21 Jan 1736.
