See his history and pictures in the Museum on Madeline Island. He was a naturalized United States citizen who immigrated from Germany in 1846, at about age 6. In 1861 he moved to La Pointe, Wisconsin.
Ancestry.com has a private photo taken in LaPointe, Wisconsin in 1890 of John Armbruster, Nelson Cadrant and Thomas Stahl. In 1900 his is the only Stahl family left on Madeline Island. He is 60, Jane is 36, Gabriel is 11, Veronica is 10, Magdaliene is 8, Charlotte is 4, Mary is 3 and Thomas is 3 months old. In 1910 he was a farmer who spoke English and lived on Madeline Island.
