Mrs. Homer Smith Dies After Six Week Illness
Mrs. Edith Johnson Smith, 53, wife of Homer Smith of Winnebago, Ill. died at 6 o'clock this morning at St. Anthony hospital following a six-week illness. Born in Winnebago county, Mrs. Smith lived in this area all her life.
She attended Winnebago and Rockford schools and Northern Illinois State Teachers college at DeKalb. She taught in Winnebago and Ogle count schools prior to her marriage on Feb. 9, 1915 (sic). Last February Mr. and Mrs. Smith celebrated their silver wedding anniversary at their home. Mrs. Smith was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Winnebago.
A lifelong member of Middle Creek Presbyterian church, she was active in the Missionary society and in other church work.
Besides the husband, survivors are two children, Josephine and Harold, at home; three sisters, Eva and Mabel of Winnebago and Mrs. Ruth Hanson of Rockford, and four brothers, Werner, Fred and Herbert of Winnebago and Harold of Rockford.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. Friday at the residence and 2 p.m. at the Middle Creek church. Dr. H. P. Armstong, retired pastor of the church will return from Minneapolis, to officiate. Burial will be in Middle Creek cemetery.3
