     John Robert Foster Michael of 5' 7 1/2" with fair hair, grey eyes and a fresh complexion began military service on 24 August 1918 at the age of 17 at Northamptonshire, England, joining the "R.A.F." a matter of months after it's formation. Previously, he had been an engineer for Wickstead & Co, of Kettering. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin as his mother, Emily Michael of Desborough. He was described as being Royal Air Force, WWI.⁹ John Robert Foster Michael ended his military service on 30 April 1920 after serving as a torpedoe mechanic.
