POPULAR SPORTSMAN-DIES OF PNEUMONIA
Larry Gilmour, Formerly of Renfrew, Passes Away, Aged 40
One of the leading supporters of amateur sports in Renfrew and known throughout the district as an all-round athlete and sportsman, Mr. John Lorne "Larry" Gilmour died suddenly of pneumonia in a local hospital on Saturday after a few days' illness. Mr. Gilmour was in his 40th year and until recently had been considered in the best of health. He was born in Almonte, but went to Renfrew with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Gilmour, when a boy. It was in Renfrew that he lived nearly all his life, and it was there that he became famous in the sporting world.
For many years he played defence on the amateur hockey team of Renfrew-- the team which held the Ottawa Valley championship cup for a number of years. Later he turned professions! and played with the Renfrew Millionaires, He was also an enthusiastic lacrosse player and fathered the sport in his home town. He turned professional and played with the Toronto lacrosse team for two years.
In later years, when unable to take active part in athletics himself, he devoted his Leisure time to horses and kept a well equipped stable. He attended every meet with his ponies and captured many valuable-ahla prizes. One. of his horses. "Charley B", was the winner of the Governor-General's cup for a considerable period. Despite his inability to play the games of his youth, he followed the sports closely and took active part in managing them. For many years he was on the executive staff of the Millionaires.
He was a member of Renfrew Lodge A.F. and A.M. and took considerable interest in its progress. He resided in Ottawa for the last three years.
The funeral was held this morning at 7.30 from the home of his sister, Mrs. J. A. McLaughlin, 380 Cooper street, to Union Station and the body taken to Renfrew where interment will be made.
Mr. Gilmour is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Adeline Jamieson, one son. Robert Allan Gilmour, aged 11; his mother, Mrs. A. A. Gilmour; two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Mc-Lockhart (sic) and Mrs. J. A, McLaughlin, of Ottawa. A brother, James A, Gilmour, lives at Port Stanley.7
