Over the course of some 30 years of sculpting (circa 1955 to 1985), she had become a well-known Canadian artist. When she died, Victoria’s Times Colonist newspaper called her “the closest thing to Emily Carr we ever had.”.⁴

Foxwarren Pioneer Couple Tendered Congratulations
     
Foxwarren, Man., May 1.—Mr. and Mrs. George Cuthbertson were last week receiving congratulations on the celebration of the fifty-fourth anniversary of their wedding, which took place at Bristol, Quebec. Both are over eighty. but are in excellent health and take a keen interest in all the affairs of the community, especially those matters affecting the United church and Sunday school.
     Mr. Cuthbertson's farm on the banks of the Ottawa, on which they resided until the (sic) moved west twenty years ago, has become one of Ottawa's popular summer resorts.
     Mr. Cuthbertson has reserved a position for his own use, and he and Mrs. Cuthbertson often spend the summer there.⁷

     Foxwarren, Man. April 25.---Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cuthbertson celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. W. Tett, Saturday afternoon and evening, April 22, when a large circle of friends from Foxwarren and neighboring towns gathered to tender con-, h gratulations. Several bouquets of 0 flowers and gifts were received. Mr. and Mrs. Cuthbertson are both in their 87th year, enjoying life and able to attend the church services, in which they take a keen interest, besides other social activities.
     Their golden anniversary was celebrated in Vancouver at the home of Mrs. Tett, and three years ago they held an "at home" on the occasion of their 57th anniversary at their farm residence near Foxwarren.
     All the members of the family living were present at their 60th anniversary: Misses Christina. and Amelia. who reside at home; Miss Mary, who teaches in Winnipeg; Mrs. Thomas Clerke (sic), and Mrs. William Tett, of Foxwarren, and one son, Isaac.. residing at home. There are eight grandchildren.
     Mrs. Cuthbertson, formerly Jessie Stark, was born in Clarendon, Que-bee. Mr. Cuthbertson was born in Bristol, Pontiac county, Quebec. They were married April 23, 1873, in Pontiac, Quebec, by Rev. M. McLaren. They resided in Bristol until 14 years ago, when they moved to Foxwarren.
     The rooms were prettily decorated with flowers and the table centred by the wedding cake. An interesting feature of the occasion was the use of a tea set 100 years old, which was used at their wedding.
     At the conclusion of the Sunday evening service in the United church Mr. and Mrs. Cuthbertso were presented with a bouquet of carnations. Rev. R. G. Thompson spoke fittingly of the inspiration of their lives in the community, and little Lawrence Williams made the presentation, The hymns for the service were chosen by Mr. and Mrs. Cuthbertson.⁸

Mr. and Mrs. George Cuthbertson each in the 88th year, celebrated their Diamond Wedding on April 23rd. They were married 60 years ago by Rev. McLaren of Ottawa and resided in Quebec province until 1919 since which date they have lived with their son Isaac near Foxwarren. Saturday afternoon and evening they were "At Home" to friends at home of their daughter Mrs. Wm. Tett. Members of their family present were: Misses Christina and Aurelia, Foxwarren, Mary on Winnipeg teaching staff, Mrs. Thos Clarke Foxwarren and eight grandchildren. Mr and Mrs Cuthbertson enjoy life and take keen interest in affairs of the community. Mr Cuthbertson served as elder for 35 years before coming west and is now on the Foxwarren United Church board and acceptable fills as lay preacher when duty calls. At close of Sunday evening service Master Lawrence Williams presented them with a bouquet of carnations expressive of the felicitations of congregation and Sunday School.⁵

GEORGE CUTHBERTSON DIES AT FOXWARREN, CHRISTMAS DAY

     Foxwarren, Man., Dec. 27—George Cuthbertson died on Christmas Day at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. Tett, aged 88. Born in Bristol county, Pontiac, Que., on July 14, 1848, he resided in that district till 15 years ago, when he moved to his farm near Foxwarren. Mr. and Mrs. Cuthbertson celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at Foxwarren on April 23, 1933. He is survived by his wife, five daughters, Misses Christina and Amelia, at home; Mary, who teaches in Winnipeg; Mrs. Thos. Clarke and Mrs. W. Tett, of Foxwarren, and son son (sic), Isaac, also living at Foxwarren. One brother, Louis, of Clarendon, Que., and a sister, Mrs. Young, of Dansord Lake, Que., also survive. The funeral will be held in the United church, Foxwarren, today, at 2 p.m.⁴

Hamilton Wigle, the former pastor of the bride. The drawing rooms were prettily decorated with plants and chrysanthemums. The bride wore a pretty costume of brown broadcloth with cream lace and chiffon trimmings. The bride received many beautiful presents, a number of which were from friends in Toronto and the eastern provinces. The groom's present was a handsom fur-lined coat with mink collar and revers. Mr. and Mrs. Mayhew went west by the evening train.¹

Are John Mayhew, son of Ira and Margaret and John Mayhew, husband of Alice Long, the same person?

Also, did Ira and Margaret have two sons named John, with the first dying before the birth of the second?³
