The following selected information is extracted from the obituary of William O'Driscall (sic) Waters.
Introductory Overview:
William O'Driscoll Waters of Kingston is not included in the Asquith and District Honour Roll for WWI.
Family Background:
The Asquith history records that Bill's father "M.J." and brother Reid came to Asquith in 1913 to open a bakery in what I knew as the cafe on Main street. They also bought the house west of the bakery, which I knew as the Gordon Rice family home. Reid died in 1930. Sometime after Bill's enlistment in April 1916, his mother and brother Harold moved to Asquith. John was working at a shell factory and came about six months later. His sister Margaret, a nurse, came in 1917 or early 1918, possibly at the time of Bill's convalescence. She died in 1934. The last member of the family to leave Asquith was John, who moved to Colonsay in 1942.
Other comments:
William enlisted several days before his 18th birthday. He was severely wounded in the fighting in front of Lens, France and was eventually invalided back to Canada. By this the rest of the family had joined his father and brother in Asquith. He convalesced in a Military Caonvalescent Hospital in Moose Jaw, with leave to Asquith. He moved to Regina where he remained until his passing. He owned a dental lab in that city.4
William O'Driscoll Waters of Kingston began military service on 14 April 1916 at the age of 17 at Kingston, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada, joining the Depot Regiment, Canadian Mounted Rifles. He was an unmarried student with no military experience. He was described as being 5' 7 1/4" tall, with blue eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin/contact as his mother, Isabella Waters of Kingston. He was assigned regimental number 226747.5
On 25 October 1916, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, embarked on "S. S. Mauretania" bound for Liverpool, England, arriving 6 days later on the 31st.5,7
On 23 May 1917, he joined the 28th Battalion, Canadian Infantry in France.5 On 22 August 1917 on the Lens front, France, he received a shrapnel wounds to the head and both legs, including a compound fracture to his his right knee, He was treated in various hospitals until 28 Mar 1918 when he was invalided to Canada aboard the hospital ship "Llandovery Castle" from Liverpool.
Several months later, on 27 June 1918, this ship was torpedoed off Southern Ireland, killing 234 doctors, nurses, members of the Canadian Army Medical Corps, soldiers and seamen in the sinking and subsequent machine gunning of life boats.5,8 Pte. William O'Driscoll Waters ended his military service on 31 August 1918 at Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, due to his being found physically unfit for duty due to his wounds. He was left with scars to his right jaw, left leg, right knee and right shoulder. He had loss of function of the right knee and partial loss of funtion to his left thigh. Upon discharge he went to Asquith.

Waters--Baird
A quiet wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Waters, Asquith, on Saturday, September 1, when Rev. Father Poulenard, of St Mary's church, Saskatoon, united in marriage Dorothy Susanna Baird of Regina, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. Thomas Baird, Portland, Oregon, to William O'Driscoll Watters, also of Regina, son of Mr. and Mrs John Waters, Asquith. The specially constructed altar was prettily decorated with roses and gladioli. and tall baskets of chrysanthemums.
Miss Alma Sheasgreen of Saskatoon, presided at the piano and played softly during the ceremony.
The bride entered the room to the strains of Lohengrin's bridal march, through french doors arched with late summer blooms. She was charming in an imported mode! of madonna blue taffeta and shell pink tulle. Her hat was a large lutherette chiffon velvet model in a contrasting shade and she carried a shower bouquet of Ophelia roses and lilies of the valley. She was attended by Miss Margaret Waters, who wore a Martha gown of sunburst Elizabeth crepe, with Spanish lace trimming and carried an arm bouquet of tea roses.
The groom was attended by his brother, Mr. J. Reid Waters.
Immediately after the ceremony the wedding dinner was served. The table was centred with the wedding cake, surmounted with valley lilies, and adorned with a pretty arrangement of smilax and roses.
The groom's mother wore a becoming gown of black crepe romaine and corsage bouquet of American Beauty roses.
Later the bride donned her traveling costume, a dress of georgette and chiffon velvet in navy blue tones, over which she wore a coat of blue kashmir trimmed with squirrel, and model hat to match.
After a short honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. Waters will make their home in The Linden Manor, Regina, Sask.1
