He was a mariner.1 He lived in Elizabeth, Essex Co., New Jersey, where he and two others built the first mills in the settlement.2
His will was dated 16 March 1726 and proved on 28 January 1729. He left his homestead and lands equally to his sons Joseph and Amos, who were named executors. His personal and moveable estate were left to his wife Susanna, along with any income derived from his real estate for as long as she remained a widow. His sons Joseph and Amos were to support and maintain his daughter Lydia, who was "laboring under such convulsion fits and weakness as much impairs her understanding and disables her to care for and support herself." He also left small amounts to the children of his daughters Mary and Ann. His slaves Peter and Joseph were left to his sons Joseph and Amos, respectively. Whatever remained was to be equally divided among all his children.2
He and Susannah had the following known children: Mary, Ann (b 27 April 1702), Joseph (b 31 May 1709, d "August 25, 1778 (1779)"), Lydia, Amos (b 1712, d 5 July 1787), Elizabeth.3
