In 1940 he was living with his father in West Emmett, Gem Co., Idaho. He was listed in the census as married, but without his wife present.4 He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a corporal in the field artillery, enlisting on 20 September 1940. He was discharged on 24 September 1945.6,8
