James M. Cassidy was born in November 1855 in Coffee County, Alabama.1 He was the son of George Washington Cassidy and Nancy Ann Josephine Snelgrove.1 James M. Cassidy married Sarah Louisa Russell, daughter of William James Russell and Mary E. Spradley, about 1880.1 James M. Cassidy died in 1908? in Covington County, Alabama.1 He was buried at Red Level Cementary, Alabama.1
A family story says that James M. Cassidy and his brother Noah Cassidy traveled by train to Alabama to visit relatives. It was very hot on the train and when they arrived the weather was cold. James developed pneumonia and died at Red Level shortly thereafter.1 James M.'s father George Washington Cassidy died on 13 May 1886 in Red Level, Covington County, Alabama.1 James M. Cassidy became the father of James Eldridge Cassidy on 19 August 1898.1
