By: Matt Henderson. - [S357] Letter, Ruth Lowe Gallion to Andy Gallion, Jun 6 1877, June 6, 1877
Dear Grandson i will try to tell you all about the trouble that i have had for the last week. My dear husband is dead. He died the 30 day of may the day he wrote you a letter the day before i will send you the letter he wrote he has been dead a week to day. He went to bed the 29 of may i as well as common. Next morning when i woke he was jerking and like he was smothering i spoke to him but he could not speak to me.
page 2
(he never) spoke again he died at aobut five o'clock that evening but thank the lord he was ready and willing to die at anytime but it dont seem like i can live without him. I have got six children with me the least is 1o years old.
Tell all the connection to write to me are all well at this time so i must close for i cant think of nothing but your dear grandfather he is gone tell all the boys their father is dead. i think he was struck with the dead palsy.
from Ruth Glayean to A.J. Galyean Write soon
those are the direct words verbatum as the letter was written. Now as mentioned earlier. A.J is Andy, Tolivers son He kept up with letters from both Shadrick and Rutha, also interesting is that Rutha's Sister Tilda (Martha Matilda) married Shadricks other son James. - [S70] 1860 Federal Census, 1860; Census Place: Wallace, Benton, Arkansas; Roll: M653_37; Page: 265; Image: 268.
