He Research note: I still do not have any primary or secondary evidence that this family is the William who was the son of Pleasant and Cassandra Lane. I have linked this family because strong family tradition of descendants in Sevier Co. Tennessee says that their direct ancestor was Pleasant, but there is still the unanswered question as to the "other" William is who was enumerated in the 1850 census as 17 years old and living with Pleasant and Cassandra and was the same William apparently married to a Rachel. Both of the families of these two William Smiths continued to reside within a few houses of Pleasant and Cassandra throughout their lifetimes. He was (an unknown value) at Farmer. He began military service at Civil War Veteran (according to Claude Haws Jr. / per phone conversation June 2005.
