Jeremiah Landers. 52 years old, formerly of Schenectady. was drowned in the canal near Montezuma some time Saturday night, the accident occurring a short distance from the village, below Lock No. 11. Accompanied by his son-in-law, Colonel Lebbens ?Larribee. the man was in
Montezuma getting a number of supplies. They started to row to his sonin-law's home which is some distance from the town. Near Lock 11 the oider man got out of the boat, to put in a trap full of crabs and then decided to finish the trip by walking. The son-in-law's home is on the opposite side to that on which Landers was walking, and it seems that he tried to cross the canal to the gate of the lock. When Larribee arrived
home, his father-in-law had not yet returned. After waiting for some time he retired, supposing that Mr. Landers would make an appearauce some time later during the night. Awakening yesterday morning about 5 o'clock, Larribee discovered that the older man had not yet returned from the trip of the night before, whereupon Larribee, T. J. Maroney and William Parker instituted a search. At 11:40 yesterday morning. Parker and Maroney found the body near Lock 11. Coroner. Louis F.O'NeilL was summoned and decided death to have been accidental. At the request of his son-in-law, the body of Mr. Landers was taken in charge by Undertaker Newkirk who will ship the remains to Schenectady for burial.
