Benedict on 15 June, 1843 in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Montezuma. It was officiated by Orman Lathrop, of Sterling. James was 39 and Catherine was 27. They had two sons, William 1845, and James Micajah 1843 before James Benedict died in 1846. Catherine was married to Joseph Ellis on the 11th May, 1850 in Cayuga. They had three daughters before Joseph died on the 16 March 1860, leaving Catherine to raise them and William in relative poverty. James Micajah Benedict died in the Civil War in 1863 and his mother was his beneficiary. During the period from 1860-1864 Catherine placed her daughters in the Auburn Home for Destitute Children for several months at a time. I am descended from her eldest daughter, Imogene, who was born in 1851 and who was married to William S. Van Bergen 30 March 1867 in Auburn. Her second daughter, Geraldene, born in 1854, married John Drew in 1868 in Port Byron. , Aug 23, 1976 SAVANNAH — Mrs. Nellie E. Ball, 75, of Seneca St., Savannah, died Saturday unexpectedly, at home. Friends may call today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Col vin Funeral Home. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Neale Bachman, pastor of Savannah United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Butler-Savannah Cemetery. Mrs. Ball was born in Olean and had lived In Savannah for the past 40 years. She was a member of the Gold Star Mothers, Savannah United Methodist Church and America n Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are two sons, Arthur Mahoney of Seneca Falls and William Ball of Savannah; two daughters, Mrs. Milton (Eugenia) Black and Mrs. Douglas (Ruth) TenEyck, both of Savannah; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ethel Marr of Clyde and Mrs. Beatrice Tassche of East Syracuse; and several grandchildre n an d great - grandchildren.
