Biography | Jack appears in Debrett's Australia Handbook 1987/88. He was awarded the Australia Medal in 1986. According to Debrett's, his family arrived in Australia about 1848. He has produced several publications, including an analysis of organochlorine residues in butter fat for the CODEX Committee on Pesticide Residues International Collaborative Study ( NQ 632 95042/5 ) - issued by the Department of Primary Industry, Pesticides Section, Canberra - Australian Publishing Service 1976. There was also a publication on Pesticides and the Australian Environment - Public Safety. He was educated at N Sydney BHS, Sydney Technical College ( DipIndustChem ); he commenced a career as a chartered chemist. He was Commonwealth Pesticides Coordinator Department of Primary Industry 1967 to 1986; chemist Technical Committee Agricultural Chemicals 1969 to 1985; on the Veterinary Drugs Committee 1968 to 1979; FAO Committee on Pesticides in Agricuture 1975, 1978. Jack led the Australian Mission to the Peoples Republic of China on Agrochemical Regulation in 1983. At one time, Jack may have been on the staff of the Australian national University in Canberra. He was Assoc RACI 1944-64 ( Fell 1965 ); he was a foundation member Weeds Society of NSW 1960 and active in the Entomological Society of Australia 1955; involved in the Society of Parisitology 1964. He has been a member of ANZAAS. My information is that Jack has some aspirations as a good home gardener and photographer ! According to Joan Betty Snelson and Connie Skey Wynn ( nee Snelson ), Jack was supported through University by his family; at one time he may have been employed by Ciba-Geigy. The above data probably trivialises his achievements and the importance of his work, but it is all that I have to go on at the moment. If I have made some mistakes in fact, emphasis or flavour, then the fault is mine - I would gladly put the record straight. [:CR:]. |
