The Snelson DataBase & Armory includes references from sources at St Catherine’s House in London during 1969-1971 and during my activity here in Sydney at The Society of Australian Genealogists where I served on the Council for many years – and was the a founder (along with Max Carrick and Phil Young) of the Sydney Dead Persons Society.

Much knowledge was gleaned from parish registers of births, deaths, marriages, christenings and burials. I also spent some time with the IGI fiche (remember them).

Another fruitful source was found in chartularies, tithe maps, land records, wills and other records.

I have wasted more time than I care to remember with the dead than with the living, poring over census records, scrutinising transportation and shipping lists, groveling around churchyards trying to decypher monument inscriptions, looking at land records and corresponding with the guild and the College of Heralds … when Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were still in short pants.

Hard copy received on 26th November 1970. [Both bride and groom were unmarried, Samuel was living in Tranmere and working as a joiner and his father is recorded as a "candle maker". This is incorrect as he was a cabinet maker. Mary was living in Eccleston, working as a servant and her father Thomas Benyon was a labourer. Witnesses to the wedding were John Benyon and Elizabeth Evans.].

Note: Both bride and groom were living at 44 Princes Street, Chester. Both were single and unmarried. Samuel's occupation was Joiner. Samuel's father was given as SNELSON Samuel, a joiner and Ada's father was Thomas Charles GILL, a labourer. Witnesses at the wedding were John Jones and Annie Gill.

Note: Both bride and groom are given as single and unmarried, Harold being 27 years old and Nessie being 26 years old. Harold's occupation is given as Soldier. Harold is living at Freshwater on the Isle of Wight and Nessie at Albion Cottage, Victoria Road in Chester. Harold's father Samuel Snelson is deceased, occupation Joiner. Nessie's father was John Pierce, a decorator and also deceased. Witnesses were John William Pierce and Harry Pierce.
