Brandt: He came with his parents to Rockville, IL, aged 5. In 1857, he came to New Lenox, IL, to Wesley Twp, Will Co., IL in 1862; to Gilman, IL in 1874, where he died in 1899 from consumption. He was a butcher; was active in civic affairs; was a member of the Methodist church. His wife's parents, William M and Elvira Mellen, came from Winhall VT to Wesley IL and removed to Gilman IL by 1876. Both are buried in the cemetery at Gilman.⁴
