ResearchHer maternal grandfather was William Alexander Masterson who's sister Margaret died along with her husband and six of their children, and a number of other people, by Indians just out side of Boise in 1854. The event, according to a historical plaque, resulted in a military retaliation that so angered the Indians that the Hudson's Bay company had to shut down Forts Boise and Hall and Oregon Trail travelers needed military escorts to be safe for the next 8 years.

ObituarySep 1, 2009OR, USA, Houghton, Raymond Clark 91 05/12/1918 08/27/2009 Raymond went home to be with the Lord. A third-generation Oregonian born and raised in Eugene, he lived most of his adult life in Portland and later in Beaverton. Predeceased in 1990 by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Vivian, he is survived by his two sons, Raymond Houghton II of Lake Oswego and James Houghton of Westlake Village, Calif; daughters-in-law, Carolyn Houghton and Carol Houghton; grandchildren, Jennifer (Humphrey), Ryan and Christopher; great-grandson, Liam; and nephew, Tom Houghton. A career executive with Pacific Northwest Bell in Portland, Raymond graduated from the University of Oregon in 1940. During World War II, he followed his passion for flying and love of country and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served as a major with the 17th Bombardment Group (Medium). Raymond was an avid golfer, loved travel, gardening, UO athletics, and family time at Neskowin. He was active in golf and tennis clubs, enjoyed the fellowship of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Oregon Pioneers, coaching sports, and volunteer work with many senior organizations. Raymond and Vivian were honored in 1988 as Beaverton's Good Neighbors of the Year. The true spirit and heart of Raymond was as a husband, father, friend and neighbor who was always most concerned about the well-being of others and eager to deliver a quick smile and assistance to whoever needed it.
