He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and lived most of his adult life in Akron. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Akron, past president of West Akron Kiwanis, a graduate of the College of Wooster, and was formerly employed by Royal Crown Cola and Falls Savings. Mr. Houghton was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy, in September. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest John III and Joanne of Rochester Hills, Mich., Chip and Linda of Fairlawn; daughter, Jill Hile of South Bend Ind; six grandchildren; and sister, Mary Reeves of Portland, Ore.⁶
