Enid M. ‘Kim’ Dobbins April 1, 2009

ALEXANDRIA BAY — Enid M. "Kim" Dobbins, 66, Route 26, died April 1, 2009 at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center after being stricken earlier while traveling. Funeral services were held April 6 in Alexandria Bay.

She was a teacher at Alexandria Central School, retiring in 1999. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling and regularly attended her grandson’s baseball and football games in Rome. She was a devoted Rome Catholic baseball/football fan, a member of the New York State Retired Teachers’ Association, the Alexandria Bay Historical Society and Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church.

Born Sept. 24, 1942, in Lowville, daughter of Everette and Leta Mae Curtis Harris, she was a graduate of Copenhagen Central School. She attended SUNY Brockport as a physical education major, and later received a master’s degree in history and elementary education from SUNY Potsdam. She married Clifford "Kippy" Dobbins on May 25, 1990, in Alexandria Bay. A previous marriage to Dale L. Houghton ended in divorce.

Surviving besides her husband are a daughter and her husband, Amy and Bennett A. Quigley, Karlen Road, Rome; one grandchild, Bennett E. Quigley, Karlen Road, Rome; two step daughters and a step son-in-law, Tracy and Jeff Parzych, North Syracuse, and Tori Aznoe, Alexandria Bay; four brothers: Leon, Rush; John, Florence, Ala; George, Copenhagen; and Everette Jr., Ivyland, Pa; and five step grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Catholic Athletic Department.¹

Houghton, Ann S. (nee Heiberg) Ann, who passed away on August 21, 2009, was born on February 9, 1912, the youngest of the 12 children of Jorgen F. and Augusta (Slettebak) Heiberg in Norman County, Minnesota. After graduating from high school in Twin Valley, Minnesota, she first attended St. Olaf College and then North Dakota State University, where she joined the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, in which she remained active throughout her life. She worked and lived in Chicago, Illinois, for many years, where she met her husband Dr. Albert W. Houghton, D.D.S. After her husband's death in 1964, she continued to live in the Chicago area before moving to Mankato, Minnesota, and then to Edina, Minnesota, where she was a longtime resident of Edina Park Plaza. However, she always remained a loyal Cubs, White Sox, Bears and Bulls fan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 11 brothers and sisters, her husband, her good friend Bill Hanks, and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Edina Park Plaza and to Home Instead (especially Bethany and Krista) for their wonderful care for her.
