Bayfield businessman, 74, and community leader, died Tuesday,August 13, in the Ashland Hospital. Except for a year and a half in Duluth and two years in Milwaukee he was a lifetime Bayfield resident. At one time he was the youngest member of the Bayfield County Board of Supervisors. In 1946 he affiliated with the Bark River Culvert Company of Eau Claire and in 1955 opened McCarty Machinery Sales Company of Bayfield. He combined this with the McCarty Insurance Agency in 1957 and expended to real estate in 1965. Mr. McCarty was a member of the Realtors Association of Chequamegon Bay. He married Miss Doris M. Stark in 1920. She survives him besides a son William F., Bayfield. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, August 16 in the Merkel Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.”
